BD Chapter 3. Big Day

The chapter we've been waiting for since the beginning of Twilight...the wedding. I'll start this one off by giving you the key plot points.
  • The wedding day has arrived
  • Bella is nervous; Edward is keeping the honeymoon destination a secret; Alice and Rosalie work all day on Bella's makeup and hair; Charlie and Renee give Bella a set of silver hair combs; Charlie escorts Bella down the stairs
  • As soon as Bella sees Edward at the altar, all her fears are gone
That's almost more of a chapter summary than just a list of the key plot points here. You can find a complete summary at Twilight Lexicon

Of course this chapter is one of the most anticipated in the movie. Bella started the day just like she has so many others, cleaning the house and making breakfast for Charlie. She's hanging on to the remnants of her old life as long as she can because she knows the changes in store for her go far beyond those that most new brides face. She's soon whisked away by Alice to start the preparations for her big day. She's understandably shocked by Rosalie's offer to assist.

Bella's also still a bit surprised by Renee's reaction to the whole thing. Aren't we all? Just before she goes down the aisle, Renee and Charlie present Bella with the heirloom combs for her hair. Her something old and something blue, her dress is new, and Alice loans her a garter. Then of course, it's time for the wedding. After begging Charlie not to let her fall, Bella proceeds down the aisle to her Edward.
Charlie took my hand and, in a symbol as old as the world, placed it in Edward's. I touched the cool miracle of his skin, and I was home.
Their vows are exchanged and they are now officially husband and wife.

The plot points and the drawing of Bella's dress are from The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide

BD Chapter 2. Long Night

Ah yes, the night of Edward's bachelor party! Of course first there is the makeout session, practice, as Bella calls it. Edward's not happy about the sacrifices that Bella is making, but she's more than willing. I love the interaction here with Emmett, Edward and Jasper. And of course, Jasper's explanation of their bachelor party plans when Bella asks if they're headed to a strip club.
"Just a few mountain lions, a couple of grizzly bears. Pretty much an ordinary night out."
Then Bella is alone and has to think about what she's facing the next day. Among her fears, Tanya and the Denali coven. I don't know a single woman out there who wouldn't be interested to meet the girl who tried and was shot down. She's got to be thinking that Tanya's going to wonder what in the world Bella has that made him choose her.
Her thoughts of Tanya lead her to recount the story of the "mother" of the Denali coven and why she is no longer with them. She created an immortal child. You factor in that Edward and Bella were just talking about the fact that choosing to be a vampire and his wife meant no children for her and it's not surprising that a child would star in her dream that night.

What do you think about Bella's choice to give up her chance of being a mother in order to be with Edward? What do you think about her nightmare?

Here are the key plot points from this chapter according to the The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide

  • The night before their wedding, Edward worries about all that Bella is giving up
  • Bella is worried about tripping in her wedding gown, and about meeting Tanya and the Denali clan; Carlisle explains the the Denaliss' mother was destroyed by the Volturi for creating an immortal child

I'm very surprised that the nightmare wasn't included as a key plot point here. It certainly stays with Bella.
You can find the Twilight Lexicon chapter summary here. (Love that it starts with "Edward, shirtless" lol)

BD Preface and Chapter 1. Engaged

I'll give myself up right from the beginning. I'm going to offer you the link to Twilight Lexicon's chapter summaries for all of these. They're fabulous, but do contain information from later chapters so I don't recommend them if you haven't read ahead. I would imagine that most of you have read the book by now, but you never know and I'm glad you're here all the same!
In The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide we have been given a list of key plot points for every chapter and I'm going to be using those as well.

Bella foreshadows her death, but this time, she's being killed by someone that she loves. First time reading, I definitely thought she was talking about Edward here. What about you?

Chapter 1. Engaged
This chapter is about Bella processing where she is right now, what's really going on with her. The ring that she feels like is a pulsing neon sign. She's always been about avoiding attention and being engaged to a Cullen makes that pretty impossible. Even her "before" car has total strangers stopping to take pictures at the gas station!

Key plot points

  • Bella feels conspicuous in her "before" car
  • Bella sees HAVE YOU SEEN THIS BOY posters for Jacob, who is still missing
  • Bella recalls breaking the news of her engagement to Charlie and Renee

The scene that plays out when Bella and Edward break the news to Charlie is classic and very much in character. His laughter at the thought of Bella having to break the news to her mother is fabulous. I have to say though, Renee's reaction just seems a little too easy. I mean, in Eclipse she was so concerned about how Bella and Edward interacted and now she's suddenly fine with them marrying? I'm not quite buying that one. Like Charlie, I'm a little disappointed.

What are your thoughts so far? Also wondering, when did you first read Breaking Dawn?

Breaking Dawn Book Discussion Schedule

Believe it or not, we are now less than 6 weeks away from Breaking Dawn on the big screen so this is not going to be a long, drawn out process and maybe not even very ind-depth, but it will be a good refresher course before we head out to theaters.
