Could Breaking Dawn DVD have a rating greater than PG-13?

Things are about to change for the world of Twilight. The book and film series that were filled with abstinence and restraint are about to make a major turnaround after the wedding in Breaking Dawn. While fans have been satisfied with the PG-13 love scenes thus far, the visuals that Stephenie Meyer has written into Breaking Dawn are causing some to now ask if that’s going to be enough.

First things first. The rating for Breaking Dawn has already been decided by the powers that be. The film will be PG-13. There are a list of wonderful and valid reasons for this. Among them, the fact that a giant chunk of the Twilight fandom are teenagers and it would not make sense to alienate them. This post is not in any way meant to debate the rating of the theatrical version of the film.

Having said that, fans have already started to talk about the DVD. In recent years it has become very common to see movies released on DVD with different ratings than their theatrical counterparts or simply no rating at all. Could an unrated or R-rated version of Breaking Dawn on DVD be the compromise that fans are looking for?

There is certainly a market out there for it. When the subject came up on twitter there was a huge response. Not only do people want to see this option, they’re willing to pay for it. There has even been a petition set up for those wanting to see an R-rated DVD version. Summit has become king of the multiple DVD release with New Moon. Could this just be added as another option?

What are your thoughts? Do you want to see an unrated version or a Director’s cut that includes footage that exceeds the limits for a PG-13 rating? If you’re not sure just what they can include in a PG-13 movie, check out this post that Kerry did a while back giving some details. If you do want the more explicit footage, is it for story integrity or just to see more nude and/or semi-nude Robert Pattinson?

I can’t wait to hear all the thoughts on this one. Watch for a follow up post with responses.

If you weren't aware, Jackson's 100 Monkeys bandmate Jerad Anderson is in Girlfriend as well. He's the cutie with the buzz cut getting cozy with Candy. You can follow 100 Monkeys on twitter and there is an account for Girlfriend as well.

Melissa Rosenberg talks 'Breaking Dawn' at the Emmys!

MTV spoke to Melissa Rosenberg at the Emmys last night and she revealed some news about the 'Breaking Dawn' script and her progress so far. She told MTV;

"They're coming along...I just flew in last night from working with ['Dawn' director] Bill Condon, prepping the scripts. It's a lot of work, I'm exhausted," Rosenberg also revealed that she's between 75 and 80 percent finished with the two screenplays. "But we're intent on making them the best scripts yet."
Regarding the biggest challenge she faces in finishing "Dawn," parts 1 and 2, Rosenberg said it's the climactic "battle scene" — in which the two opposing vampire groups face off in dramatic fashion at the end of the book — that's proving to be her biggest obstacle, rather than the infamous "birth scene".
"The final battle sequence is a big challenge because it lasts 25 pages," Rosenberg told us. "It's almost an entire three-act story in and of itself. You have to track (kept all in one setting) hundreds of characters. It's an enormous challenge to choreograph on the page and for Bill to choreograph on the stage."
Check out video from MTV below!

[Can I just say that I am a bit confused by the reference to the "battle" it may have just been my interpretation but I don't remember a 'battle' per se - more a lot of standing around in a field - do feel free to correct me in the comments. I am, however, heartened to hear how much input Bill Condon seems to have in the script process so far -E]

What do you think about what you have heard to date on the 'Breaking Dawn' Scripts? Are you concerned or do you think no one need worry? What 'Breaking Dawn' scenes need the most emphasis in your mind? Let us know we love to hear from you!

Carlisle Cullen - Worst Vampire Ever?

Rolling Stone Magazine has named Carlisle Cullen as the worst movie vampire. Writing in his column Rolling Stone movie critic Peter Travers says;

"Facinelli is a solid actor, but playing Carlisle Cullen, the white-haired head of the fang-challenged Cullen vampire family, he looks about as terrifying as Project Runway winner Austin Scarlett, whom Carisle closely resembles."

Peter Facinelli promptly responded via Twitter;
 "YES! I finally came in Number 1 in something! http://tiny.cc/xetru

....Thank you Mr. Travers. As Carlisle is a compassionate humanitarian, and anti-vampire in nature, being the worst Vampire was quite the compliment. Although, you had me at "solid actor". :) I did find the comparison to Austin Scarlett utterly ridiculous though ... He has way better cheek bones."
