Bella Giveaway

Oh, Bella, Bella... Sweet, caring, indecisive yet stubborn, brave worrywart Bella Swan. Sometimes, she's a poster child of teenage low self esteem, but when the occasion arises and her loved ones are in danger (real or imaginary), she turns into a self-sacrificing warrior kitten. Bella, we love you so...
Some say that she's not liberated enough, that she's weak and dependent, that she allows stalker-ish Edward to watch and defend her, while she's playing damsel in distress throughout the books. I disagree, strongly. She has a ton of weaknesses, but they are by far not her defining qualities, imho.
So, today, in honor of our beloved female protagonist, I'm hosting a little giveaway. For a chance to win the prize package (which I will describe in detail a little later), you can:
  • Leave a comment under this post, telling me what you personally think about Bella's character in Twilight Saga.
  • Buy anything in my Etsy Shop - TwiMom and let me know about it in a comment below.
  • Become a new follower of Eyes of Amber, or of my personal blog - Apples of My Eyes, and mention it in yet another comment here.
  • Last but not least, Twit or Blog about the giveaway with a link to it. Comment here to let me know about it.
So, all in all, you can have up to 5 chances for a win. The prize package is pretty neat, and consist of:
In the Eye of the Beholder, Bella & Edward, 5.5" x 8.5" hand decorated print, depicting Bella, rushing to save Edward in Volterra.
In the Eye of the Beholder, Bella & Jacob, 5.5" x 8.5" hand decorated print, inspired by the really cool effect in New Moon when we see Bella reflected in Jacob's Eye when he meets her for the first time in his Wolf form.
Bella's St. Jude Protection Bracelet, just like the one she was wearing in the movies, from my friend and fellow TwiHard, Karen, owner of the Etsy shop The Cubby Hole.
Pack of 20 TwiStickers, these are just cute little self-adhesive pieces of twilight fan art by yours truly.
Pack of 5 Temp. Tatoos, same design as the stickers, but you can actually sport them on your skin for a few days :)
So, good luck to you all, the winner will be chosen randomly in a week, on Sat. May 22nd. and name will be announced in my next guest post.

New 'Eclipse' outdoor artwork

In all the excitement of Oprah and Rob's birthday we forgot to get excited about the new 'Eclipse' artwork. First glimpsed on the Apple Trailers site when the new 'Eclipse' clip was revealed this morning it shows Edward, Jacob and Bella with Riley and Victoria in the shadows.

What do you think of the new Eclipse artwork? I love the strong Bella in the picture and Edward looks amazing!

More Oprah videos!

There are more Oprah extra videos of segments that didn't air on the show. Rob talks about Edward's character, his passion for reading and his favorite book and the twifecta talk about what they would be doing if they weren't acting. Clips after the jump in case of spoilers for those trying to stay away from Eclipse news!

Eclipse Discussion - Chapter 22. Fire and Ice

Our guest poster this week is the wonderful Krista, known on twitter as @AccentOnLife. She is the features editor for The Daily Advertiser and of course, a Twilight fan. I'm so excited that she agreed to help us out! Here you go...

I have to admit – I did several camping trips back in my Girl Scout days. But the camping experience Stephenie Meyer describes in Fire and Ice is definitely more extreme than any tween squabbles my troop had out in the wilderness.
First of all, the storm has arrived – and it’s bad. The snow and wind are chilling Bella to the bone, though Edward and Jacob are fine. Edward (and Jacob, for that matter) wants to get her out of the horrendous weather, but Bella is nothing if not a martyr, so she keeps insisting that she’s okay, knowing that leaving would jeopardize the trail they’ve made.
So, it is this argument over Bella’s health and safety that begins a night of bickering. Edward makes an offhand comment to Jacob about going to “fetch a space heater,” and one shows up in the form on a 108.9-degree wolf. Jacob makes his way into the tent, and Edward, knowing what Jacob was planning, immediately rebuffs him, saying “I don’t like this.” Well, of course he doesn’t. But Jacob is in a much better position to help Bella than Edward is at that moment.
Jacob zips himself into Bella’s sleeping bag – with stern warnings to keep his hands off her from Edward – letting his body heat warm her. She objects at first, knowing that the situation is bit, well, crowded in their tent. But once she feels Jacob’s heat, she starts to relax and even drift off to sleep. She’s in that fuzzy space that’s somewhere in between sleep and awake where you hear what’s going on around you but don’t fully comprehend what’s being said. For Bella, the conversation that follows between Edward and Jacob takes on a dream-like quality that reminds me quite a bit of her return from Italy when Edward had to convince her that he was in fact there with her and she wasn’t dreaming.
Perhaps knowing that Bella was taking in only bits and pieces of this conversation allowed them to speak more freely. As usual, Jacob is abrupt with his honesty, and Edward is restrained as to not give too much away. But what I find most interesting about their discussion is the ability to come together for a common goal – in this case, Bella – in an “uncomfortable truce.”
The topic of jealousy takes up a significant portion of this conversation, and, in a way, that kind of sums up their relationship (as it were) to this point. Edward is jealous because Jacob can offer Bella things he can’t, and Jacob is jealous because Bella keeps choosing Edward. In fact, the conversation basically starts with Jacob pointing out that Edward is jealous he can do something for Bella he can’t – keep Bella warm. Edward agrees, but Jacob concedes that it’s a moot point because he knows Bella wishes it were Edward. Jacob then taunts Edward by mentioning his jealousy of “all the things” (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) he could do with Bella that Edward can’t. Edward admits that Bella thinks of Jacob “more often than I like.”
The idea of seeing inside each other’s head, if only for one night, is actually quite intriguing. It’s a good thing for the two of them to air what’s on their minds before the next day’s fight, and while they certainly don’t see eye to eye, they seem to come away from the conversation with a better understanding of each other. And as readers, it allows us to see some of Jacob and Edward’s finer qualities.
One of Jacob’s best traits is his honesty. It’s usually more blunt than perhaps it needs to be, but more often than not, he’s right. This conversation gives readers an opportunity to see his insightfulness. For example, he tells Edward, “She’s in love with me, too, you know. But she doesn’t know it.”
Edward constantly struggles with trying to do what he thinks is the right thing, and that desire to be honorable is one of his finest qualities. Even when it means pain for him, he’s willing to put others, especially Bella, first. And in this conversation, there are a couple of examples. Jacob asked Edward if he would try to kill him if she chose him. Edward automatically says, “No.” When Jacob asks him why not, his response is, “Do you really think I could hurt her that way?”
That desire to do the right thing also shows up in Edward’s discussion of the four possibilities he saw for his relationship with Bella. The first was that she wouldn’t return his feelings for her. The second was to stay with her until she dies. The third was to leave her, forcing her to move on, as in the first possibility. And the fourth is to make her a vampire as well. Edward points out that he tried to do what he thought was best for her by going with the third option but admits it ending up being a mistake.
Bella’s self-sacrificing nature – arguably one of her best qualities comes up again at the end of the chapter when Edward asks Jacob to explain the story about the third wife. Edward sees why she identifies with that character and recognizes her desire to do what she can to help during the battle. In fact, that’s why he’s staying with her – to protect her from doing something dangerous in her desire to help. The question now is how her family and friends will fare the next day.

Metric blog about being on the Eclipse Soundtrack!

Emily from 'Eclipse' soundtrack band Metric has blogged about their experience of working on the 'Eclipse' soundtrack. Surprisingly they worked with composer Howard Shore on their contribution!

"Yes ... It’s official. Our song “All Yours”, co-written with the legendary film composer Howard Shore and performed by Metric, is going to be featured in the movie Eclipse, the next installment in the worldwide phenomenon known as the Twilight saga.

I've always wanted to write music for film, but I never expected to start with something on this scale, so you can imagine how surprised I was when out of nowhere I got a phone call from Howard Shore, who I’d never met or even spoken with before. Most people know him as the man who wrote the acclaimed score for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I grew up on Shore's earlier works-- his score for David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch in collaboration with jazz great Ornette Coleman still stands as one of the most ambitious & unusual scores out there.
To my amazement, Howard was calling to ask me to work with him on his latest project: scoring the next Twilight movie, Eclipse. He wanted Jimmy & I to write the theme song for the pivotal last scene in the movie, integrating the music from his existing score into a composition that would express the emotional ending of the film. Seriously?!?! The lyrics would have to be in the voice of the main character Bella, and we had to stay within the confines of harmonic and melodic themes Howard had in mind for the last scene."

She continues...
"I don't have to tell you what an honor it was to be hand picked by Howard to do this work. We are massively grateful for the opportunity & hope you all enjoy Metric's first ever film composition."

Read the rest of the blog here.

Congratulations to Metric - you can follow them on twitter here.

Eclipse Quote of the Day #49

"Tell me what you want, and you can have it." - Edward

Happy 24th Birthday Rob! (Which came first?)

Today is Robert Pattinson's 24th birthday... We here at EoA want to wish him an incredibly happy birthday and many, many years of success. We are in awe of your many varied talents and wish you every happiness that life has to offer. May you find the joy in your work that it gives to us, and enjoy the company and love of family and friends. We love you, respect you and wish you all the best! - The EoA girls
With the fans failing to vote Remember Me into the nominations for the MTV Movie Awards, it seems that Rob is still very much thought of as "just" Edward, but we hope that will change. The sooner, the better. Having said that, the role of Edward is what has made Rob a household name, so we have a question for you. Which came first? Did Rob bring you to Twilight or did Twilight bring you to Rob? If you found Rob first, tell us how. Let's celebrate the day he came into the world by talking about how he came into our lives! Can't wait for your responses!

Amber - I have to say that for me, Twilight came first. I'd never heard the name Robert Pattinson until the day he was announced as cast for the role of Edward on Stephenie Meyer's website. After a quick search through his photos on imdb, I was convinced. (Go easy on me peeps, I didn't read Harry Potter until last year. But I quickly fell in love with Cedric in the books, and then, of course, the movie.) I have since become very familiar with and hooked on Rob's work outside of Twilight. While I love the saga dearly, I cannot wait to see him extend himself even more as he branches out into other projects.

Eimear - I think for me Rob came first. I was aware of him as I am from the UK and he was one of those actor's whose name was always out there from Harry Potter. I was a HUGE Harry Potter fan as well and read all the books as they were released. With Twilight I was a little later to the game, i heard about the movie and that spurred me to read the book which then pushed me to actually see the movie. I loved 'Remember Me' but I am actually really excited to see 'Bel Ami' and 'Water for Elephants' as i think they will really showcase Rob's talent. Happy Birthday Rob - hope you have a great day!

RaShell - Oh, Edward, Edward... kidding. But yeah, for me it was Twilight first, Robert second. He was a nice Cedric and everything, but I certainly was not as smitten with the beautiful boy back in his HP days :) Even though he's super hot and thanks to him I am now aware of the expression "jaw porn", I feel very protective of him, kinda motherly (and I'm not even THAT much older). He is multitalented, funny and tolerates the neverending hoopla around him with such self-depreciating grace, that it nearly breaks my heart. I wish him many happy and exciting things in life, big true love and peace and quiet when he needs it!

You can also check out The Collective Review article for Rob's birthday, formerly known as t5m.

Eclipse Quote of the Day #50

"He thinks my translations leave something to be desired. What he actually thought was, ‘That’s really stupid. What is there to be worried about?’ I edited, because I thought it was rude." - Edward

'Eclipse' rated PG-13.

In another piece of news in a busy 'Eclipse' news day the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has released the ratings for 'Eclipse' in their weekly report.  Box Office Mojo is reporting that 'Eclipse' will be given
"a PG-13 rating for "intense sequences of action and violence, and some sensuality."

Box Office Mojo continues "Both Twilight and New Moon were PG-13 as well, but for slightly different, and somewhat telling, reasons: Twilight garnered its rating due to "some violence and a scene of sensuality," while New Moon earned it for "some violence and action." Confirming what the most recent trailer suggested, Eclipse's rating indicates that the action quotient has been ramped up compared to the first two movies."

Breaking Dawn cast negotiations hit a snag?

The respected Hollywood journal 'The Hollywood Reporter' is reporting that the hold up on announcing whether 'Breaking Dawn' will be one or two movies is due to a salary dispute. According to 'THR' primary cast members including Kristen, Rob and Taylor are close to finalizing their deals. The hold up is due to the secondary cast members. 'THR' says:

"Deals for Peter Facinelli (who plays Carlisle Cullen) and Billy Burke (Bella's father, Charlie Swan) are done, but we're told the actors who play the Cullen kids (especially Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene) are trying to sink their teeth into bigger paydays that, at least at this point, the studio behind the billion-dollar franchise is unwilling to provide. "We may have a situation where one of them is thrown out on the street to make a point," says a source close to the dealmaking."

MTV is saying "The major names associated with the series are all contractually bound to stay on through "Breaking Dawn," but new deals are required if the studio splits the story into two movies."If a deal cannot be reached Summit has replaced cast before on the saga (Rachelle anyone..) so it is not unheard of. I however doubt Ashley or Kellan would NOT want to be a part of the final movie/movies.

Hopefully this can some to a peaceful resolution for all involved - would you rather one or two movies for 'Breaking Dawn'?

Twilight Inspires baby names

According to the social security administration the baby names Cullen, Edward, Isabella and Jacob have jumped in popularity due to the success of the books.

"Cullen materialized at 485, leaping almost 300 spots from 2008 for the biggest increase of any boy’s name; it wedged firmly between Braiden and Kason.
But the nation’s fascination with the undead may not end there. The most popular boy’s name was Jacob, an eternal favorite that happens to be the name of the buff rival of paler-than-thou Edward: Jacob Black. The most popular name for girls was Isabella, the progenitor of Bella, the love interest of both Edward the vampire and Jacob the werewolf. Just plain Bella logs in at 58."

Eclipse Quote of the Day #53

"To think it’s come to this, though! Trusting werewolves!" - Edward
