People's Choice Award Winners

Twilight fans have gotten used to the movie sweeping awards shows, but it didn't happen last night. Honestly, I'm kind of glad that they didn't walk away with every award up there. They were up against some hugely established actors and actresses and I'd hate to have to listen to the choruses of "They only won because the little teeny bopper fans had nothing better to do than vote constantly." Here are the nominations along with the winners.

  • Favorite Movie Actor - Robert Pattinson - Winner - Johnny Depp
  • Favorite Movie Actress - Kristen Stewart - Winner - Sandra Bullock
  • Favorite Breakout Movie Actress - Anna Kendrick - Winner - Mylie Cyrus (I'm shocked by this one)
  • Favorite Breakout Movie Actor - Taylor Lautner - WINNER
  • Favorite On-Screen Team - The Twilight Saga - WINNER
  • Favorite Movie - Twilight - WINNER

Also, Paramore won Favorite Rock Band and Taylor Swift won Favorite Female Artist. You can see all the winners on the People's Choice site.

Vampires were a hot commodity of the night. True Blood took the title of Favorite TV Obsession and Vampire Diaries was named Favorite New TV Drama.  Kellan presented for Favorite Country Artist and Queen Latifah went out in the audience and took a picture of herself with Taylor, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman. If you havaen't seen the New Moon parody from last night that we posted earlier, be sure to check it out!

Eclipse Book Discussion: Chapter 4: Nature

This post contains book spoilers for Eclipse through chapter 4. Go read!

Nature means a few things, similarly related. The world around us, the balance between predator and prey, the whole circle of life thing. (I got you singing, didn't I?) It can also mean...just who we are. Ourselves deep down inside.

Chapter 4 begins with some understatement.
Amber: I find it hilarious that the first line of this chapter is "I was having a bad week."
Kerry
: Bella is stressed out.
Sabrina
: How very appropriate!
Bella is still in that horrid place of waiting for something bad to happen. It's a lot of waiting, with big things hovering on the horizon. Victoria is still on the loose, and her change to vampire life is mere weeks away. She does try to convince the Cullens to change her sooner, in an effort to provide some help, but they are not concerned over the seven of them being able to handle Victoria.
Sabrina: It's so odd to me that the Cullens think it's silly that she's scared.
Kerry
: they've lost the perspective of being a human in this situation.. Sabrina: Maybe they've been practically invincible so long that they've forgotten what it feels like to be vulnerable
Kerry
: they' thinking there's 7 of them and 1 Victoria, as long as they keep Bella away, it'll be fine
Amber
: and I think they're just so confident that they can protect her, the fact that she lacks that same confidence confuses them.
A minor scene in the chapter, but a great metaphor for the story. I want to take time to talk about the magnets.
Sabrina: What a lovely visual allusion to Edward and Jacob.
Kerry
: Definitely, it was a good metaphor for reconciling Edward and Jacob in her life
Amber
: and I love that they're her favorites, the big strong ones
Amber: "The last two magnets - round black utilitarian pieces that were my favorites because they could hold ten sheets of paper to the fridge without breaking a sweat."
The Cullens, with the exception of Alice, leave the following weekend to hunt. When Bella finds herself with some unexpected free time, she seizes the opportunity to go visit Jacob, figuring a split decision would allow her to cross the boundary before Alice could reach her.
Amber: Okay, so we get the note from Edward in this chapter, one of the famous quotes
Kerry
: Sweetward!
Sabrina
: Yeah, I have to admit that's pretty sweet.
Amber
: Such a romantic!
Sabrina
: And, actually very practical. He worries for her when he's gone. He thinks it might help. I like it.
Kerry
: it's some of that old-fashioned romance too...how often do people write simple love notes anymore?
Amber
: very true, and Edward is definitely an old-fashioned romantic
Sabrina
: True. Now it's love Facebook statuses instead :)
So, Bella goes to La Push. We get to see the true friendship between Bella and Jacob here. Despite the weeks of avoidance and disagreement, they are genuinely happy to see each other, and easily slip into a friendly conversation. Inevitably though, the conversation needs to turn to the issues at hand. Bella explains her reconciliation with Edward, and Jacob tells the story of the events that happened while Bella was in Florida.
Kerry: so Bella and Jake hash out some of their feelings on their separation
Sabrina: It got pretty ugly occasionally, but she did set him straight on a couple of key points.
Kerry: I like the conversation about why Edward left, that even Jacob couldn't fault him for that
Sabrina: And as Jacob understands more, so do I.
Amber: He can't fault Edward for leaving when it was all about protecting Bella
Sabrina: Funny in a way, irritating in a way. Insulting her decisions is probably not the best way to get her to change her mind.
Kerry: I don't think Jacob knows any other way though, and he's trying to rationalize it to himself. and it's easier to think it's the looks or the money, than to accept that she just really loves Edward
Amber: I don't think he's doing it to insult her, just to draw some comparison. "What does he have that I don't?'
Sabrina: Open mouth, insert paw.
Sabrina: He was just really tactless in going about it.
Kerry: Well, that's Jacob. Jacob has never been very tactful
Sabrina: I suppose he understood that he is home to Bella, and he doesn't understand how anything can compare.
Wait a minute, which one of us is Team Jacob, here? No really, I've said before that my favorite thing about these books is the humanity of all the characters. They all have their quirks and strengths and weaknesses, and we all can see them.

Jacob and Bella hash out some of their relationship, and Jacob struggles to see what Bella sees in Edward. The symbolism of the chapter title is brought out in a great metaphor by Jacob. The description of an eagle, a powerful predator circling the sky with a fish in it's talons. Predator and prey, exactly as nature intended them to be. He's equating this to Edward and Bella, a similar metaphor that Edward used with Bella once. Bella makes a joke, and that brings us back to the discussion above, but the underlying sentiment is that things don't always have to be a certain way. That with effort and love and acceptance, anything is possible.

We conclude the chapter with a look into Jacob's heart. His true case for Bella's life, and her life with him.
Sabrina: I find it so interesting that Jacob sees his condition as natural.
Amber: I think he defines it as natural because it's born in him
Kerry: and he wouldn't have changed if the vampires hadn't been around
Sabrina: Bella's remark about being stuck with Mike was hilarious. Poor Mike!
Kerry: but really...I think it's why Edward gets so annoyed with Mike. Mike isn't a bad guy
Kerry: He's just....normal
Amber: I think it's interesting here to that Jake makes a distinction between normal and natural. He tells her he never claimed to be normal
Amber: and as he points out, that doesn't apply to Bella either
Amber: when he tells her at the end that he feels human, I just break.
Jacob and Bella's conversation will continue in the next chapter, so we'll return to it next week. Share with us your feelings on the reunion and the symbolism of the "Nature" reference.
Sabrina: Can I just say that I'm very disappointed at the lack of Charlie in this chapter?

Jasper, Abs and Sparkles...Oh My!

Oh yes, the long-awaited Jasper is about to become a reality...thanks to @FireCr0tch of We Bite Pretty Hard for sending me the great tip on these yesterday before I'd heard about them anywhere else! Before you get too excited, these are all only currently available for pre-order and won't ship until April.

So yes, here is Jasper in the outfit from the ill-fated birthday scene. Honestly, I believe they did a better job on the hair with the action figure than on Jackson. Anyone else care to weigh in on that one?

For all the Team Jacob girls out there...Jacob Black sans shirt. Truthfully, I've been waiting for this guy since we saw the preview at Comic Con and was bummed when he wasn't in the original release of New Moon figures.

Alice will finally have her counterpart, her other half. And all of those ladies who are feeling pervy because Taylor is still 17 can take comfort in the fact that he'll be fully legal by the time their shirtless Jacob arrives at their door. Hmmm, I have to wonder if that was planned...

Now...Team Edward already had three figures. We had the original Edward in the peacoat, Edward in the sunglasses (I am in love with this one and need it desperately...just sayin'), and the New Moon Edward. What more could we possible ask for, right? A shirtless Italy Edward? Yes, that would be awesome. But wait, that's not what we got. However, these are close. You have your average, run of the mill, begging-the-Volturi-to-take-his-life Edward...

For $8 more...you can have the sparkling ready-to-die-in-Volterra Edward.

All these figures, as well as the previously released ones, are available through ToyWiz.com. You can even order these four as a set for $59.99. @FireCr0tch ordered several sets from them before and was more than happy with her experience.

So spill it, what do you think of these? Will you be ordering any of them? I must admit, I really want some sparkly Edward. The hubs said tonight, "You know you're going to eventually end up getting them no matter what you say now." I wasn't all that thrilled with the first run of the New Moon ones. I'm anxious to get my hands on these and check them out in person. I'm also looking forward to the New Moon Edward who will be arriving at my house soon courtesy of a wonderful twitter buddy @Valleegrl. Can you believe he was on clearance at Target? Oh, the horror!

Eclipse Chapter 4 Discussion Preview & Script Leak

Nature

"You see it everywhere. Nature taking its course - hunter and prey, the endless cycle of life and death. And yet, you don't see the fish trying to plant a kiss on the eagle. You never see that."

"Maybe the fish was trying. It's hard to tell what a fish is thinking. Eagles are good-looking birds, you know."

Discussion will post on Thursday. And while we're on the topic of discussions, twitter has been on fire this evening with talk of the Eclipse script leak. We will not be allowing ANY discussion of the script on the blog or in the facebook group. We thank you for respecting us and your fellow fans by following this guideline.

Rob Tops GQ's Best-Dressed List

And with this picture as an example, who's going to argue?

From GQ.com:
1. Robert Pattinson
(Last year No.39) "Extremely elegant and inspiring, the true essence of a contemporary man." Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, designers
GQ says:
The 23-year-old actor has scaled a whopping 38 places in just 12 months... How? Just type his name into Google and the nine million search results might explain this Brit actor's unstoppable rise to the top spot.

Yes, yes, we like Premiere-Rob. Hope to see a repeat for Eclipse, too.

Top Twi Moments of 2009

It's so hard to believe that 2009 is coming to an end! Where does the time go? Weren't we all just saying, "Is it November yet?" This year had a lot of wonderful, memorable moments in the world of Twilight. Here are some of the ones that stood out the most to us. **Kerry: Adding my thoughts in italics!**

The Twilight DVD release. We started counting the days as soon as the date was announced. On March 20, we were finally able to bring Twilight home to watch over and over occasionally. There are even those of us who own three versions, although that's just hearsay. Oh, and if you haven't watched it with the audio commentary on, you are totally missing out on a treat.

Kerry Sees & Reads Twilight For The First Time. Yeah, I was a latecomer to the whole Twilight deal. My hubby read the series and wanted to see the movie before it left the theater, so January 25, 2009, we showed up to a still half-full theater and saw the movie that would instantly change how I spent my free time. (And some of the not-so-free time)!

New Moon Casting News. It trickled in slowly and sometimes took days to verify, but it was like water in the middle of the desert. Each announcement was like opening a long-awaited gift, particularly when Summit gave us the completed list.

Rob Breaks The Internet
. Otherwise known as the Least Productive Day Ever. New Moon filming in Montepulciano, Italy brings us shirtless Rob in the Italian sunlight. /swoon

First New Moon trailer. The MTV Movie Awards were a fantastic coup for Twilight. While the acceptance speeches and the infamous almost kiss were wonderful, the true highlight of the night was the first trailer.

The MTV Movie Awards Show. For me, this was really exciting. This was the first time I watched anything 'live' with the cast or Twilight-related. Made me feel like a real fan, not just playing catch up with old youtube videos. Unfortunately, it meant I had to watch the MTV Movie Awards.

Various Wonderful Magazines. Including, but certainly not limited to US Weekly Sexy Stars of Twilight and the New Moon edition.

Speaking of Magazines, What About....? GQ = Kerry falls in love with a 23 year old guy with dirty hair. Vanity Fair publishes some of the best pics of the cast, and then kills us dead with an amazing shoot with Rob. And then outtake after outtake after outtake after outtake. Oh, and of course let's not forget Taylor's Rolling Stone, or Kristen's Allure. Or any of the other 4.324.857 others.

Seeing Sam Bradley and The Men. Okay, so this is definitely a personal highlight, and not really Twilight related, directly. But, were it not for Twilight and Sam's co-writer status on the soundtrack's Never Think, I might never have found this fabulous artist. Meeting him, interviewing him and seeing him perform was definitely a highlight of my year. This is an experience that Kerry and I both got to have this year, but unfortunately, months and miles apart. Sam is so adorable! I had a great time seeing him in concert in Seattle, and was pleasantly surprised to find him attending a Marcus Foster concert in Nashville a few weeks later! Hi Sam!

Comic Con. It was the first chance to see the cast together since they wrapped filming. It was incredibly exciting and of course the panel was wonderful. Afterward, even more of the cast showed up afterward to introduce special screenings of Twilight. There was tons of fantastic coverage from this event.

New Moon Hot Topic Tour. It was loud, squeemageddon in the extreme, but a lot of fun. Twilight fans can make friends in an instant. It was also the first fan event I had been to, and again, just to be able to experience it was so great. Daniel Cudmore and Charlie Bewley are hilarious and did great on stage. Daniel has this sweet charm, and Charlie rocks the British accent, we were all swooning in no time. A shout out to Susan for letting me use her pictures!

Chris Weitz. This isn't a moment, more of a combination of moments, but definitely a highlight. When he was announced as the director of New Moon, there was a lot of skepticism. I admit, I was among those nervous fans. But he has absolutely knocked it out of the park with this movie and won many of our hearts in the process. He totally gets it! And we love him for it. Click here to check out all we've written about him.

New Moon Premiere. 10,000 fans lining the streets, some having been there for 5 days, all trying to catch a glimse of our beloved cast members. Amazing dresses and suits adorned our actors as they worked the red carpet, with several of the media commenting that it almost seemed more like an awards show than a premiere with the type of fashion they were seeing.

Taylor hosts SNL. There were skeptics galore, but Taylor pulled it off with flying colors. He got the chance to demonstrate his comedic side and those awesome martial arts moves and physical tricks he's famous for. Awesome, awesome job Taylor.

New Moon Release. It's not that Amber forgot this one, I stole it
from her
offered to write it. Probably the BIGGEST Twilight moment in 2009.
Ticket sales climbing up the charts and breaking records, proving that the audience isn't as narrow a field as they might have once thought.

The growth of the blog
. Of course, this is a bigger deal to Kerry and I, but it's something we're really proud of and thankful for. We were able to expand to a blogging page on t5m, added the lovely Kerry, reached over 1300 twitter followers, purchased the eyesofamber.com domain name and most recently even became available for subscription on Kindle! It has not been without help from so many fellow bloggers and of course, our wonderful readers! You guys make all the Twi Moments so much sweeter! This is a definite highlight for me! Now I get to write about my addiction
hobby! I also got a great friend in Amber and laugh and think over all your comments.
